According to HAL, the Tejas Mk1A aircraft completed the sortie successfully after 18 minutes of flight time. Chief Test Pilot Group Captain K K Venugopal (Retired) piloted the jet.

Following the contract signing in February 2021, HAL Chief Managing Director C B Ananthakrishnan stated that the company reached this big production milestone through concurrent design and development in the face of considerable supply chain hurdles in the global geopolitical climate.

HAL expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Defence, Indian Air Force, Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO), and associated private firms for their contributions to the success of this programme, saying the country can expect early induction of the Tejas Mk1A aircraft by the IAF, as well as increased production through the three lines of production established at HAL.

HAL stated that the Tejas Mk1A aircraft will include advanced electronic RADAR, warfare and communication systems, increased combat capability, and improved maintenance features.

HAL inked a Transfer of Technology (ToT) agreement with CSIR-National Aerospace Laboratories (CSIR-NAL) on November 8, 2023.

The arrangement sought to provide BMI Engine Bay Doors for the series production of Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas Mk1A, an indigenous 4.5 generation, all-weather, multi-role fighter aircraft for the Indian Air Force.
